These tumors, also known as carcinoids, are typically discovered incidentally during appendectomy or imaging studies. While benign, they have the potential for local growth and, rarely, distant spread.

Use this code when documentation clearly states a diagnosis of a benign carcinoid tumor specifically located in the appendix. This diagnosis is often confirmed by histopathological examination of an appendectomy specimen. It is appropriate for cases where the tumor is localized and shows no evidence of malignancy or metastasis.

• Ensure the pathology report explicitly states "benign carcinoid" and specifies the appendix as the primary site.
• Do not confuse with malignant carcinoid tumors (C7A.020) or other benign neoplasms of the appendix (D12.6).
• If the tumor has metastasized, even if the primary is benign, additional codes for secondary malignant neoplasms will be required.
