Fetishism

This code represents a paraphilic disorder characterized by recurrent, intense sexually arousing fantasies, urges, or behaviors involving nonliving objects or specific non-genital body parts. These fetishes cause clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning.

Assign this code when documentation clearly indicates a diagnosis of fetishism, where the individual's sexual interest is exclusively or predominantly focused on inanimate objects or highly specific non-genital body parts. The patient must experience significant distress or functional impairment due to these paraphilic interests.

• Ensure documentation specifies distress or impairment; otherwise, it may be considered a non-disorder paraphilia.
• Distinguish from transvestic fetishism (F65.1), which involves cross-dressing for sexual arousal.
• Code only when the condition meets diagnostic criteria for a mental disorder, not merely a sexual preference.
