Renovascular hypertension

This code represents hypertension caused by a narrowing or blockage of the arteries that supply blood to the kidneys. This renal artery stenosis leads to increased renin production, which in turn elevates systemic blood pressure. It is a secondary form of hypertension.

Assign this code when documentation clearly indicates hypertension due to renovascular disease, often confirmed by imaging studies such as renal angiography, MRA, or duplex ultrasound showing renal artery stenosis. This diagnosis is typically made after other causes of secondary hypertension have been ruled out.
