This code signifies a condition where the tricuspid valve, located between the right atrium and right ventricle of the heart, fails to close properly, leading to a backflow of blood (regurgitation) into the right atrium during ventricular systole. This insufficiency is not caused by rheumatic fever or rheumatic heart disease.

Apply this code when documentation explicitly states "nonrheumatic tricuspid insufficiency" or "nonrheumatic tricuspid regurgitation." It is appropriate for both congenital and acquired forms of tricuspid insufficiency, provided a rheumatic etiology is ruled out.

• Ensure documentation clearly specifies "nonrheumatic" to differentiate from rheumatic forms (I07.1).
