Sublingual varices

This code represents the presence of abnormally dilated and tortuous veins located on the underside of the tongue. These varices are typically asymptomatic but can be a sign of underlying systemic conditions or local vascular changes.

Use this code when documentation explicitly states "sublingual varices" or "varicosities of the sublingual veins." This diagnosis is often made during routine oral examinations by dentists or physicians.

• Do not confuse with esophageal varices (I85.0) or gastric varices (I86.4).
• Code only when the varices are specifically identified as sublingual.
• Consider coding any underlying systemic conditions contributing to varices, if documented.
