Anodontia

This code represents the congenital absence of all teeth, either primary (deciduous) or permanent. It is a rare developmental anomaly where tooth buds fail to form.

Use this code when documentation clearly states the complete absence of teeth from birth or due to a developmental failure. This diagnosis is typically made in early childhood or when a patient presents with a complete lack of dentition without a history of extraction or trauma.

• Differentiate carefully between congenital absence and acquired absence of teeth; the latter is excluded.
• Ensure documentation specifies "congenital" or "developmental" to support this code.
• Do not use for partial absence of teeth (hypodontia or oligodontia).
