Hypercementosis

This code represents an excessive deposition of cementum on the root surface of a tooth, beyond the normal physiological limits. This overgrowth can affect one or multiple teeth and may be localized or generalized.

Use this code when documentation explicitly states "hypercementosis" as a diagnosis. This condition is often identified radiographically, and the radiologist's report or the dentist's clinical notes should confirm the finding.

• Do not confuse with cementoma (D16.4), which is a benign tumor of cementum.
• Ensure documentation specifies hypercementosis and not simply "root enlargement" without further clarification.
• Consider any associated conditions or symptoms that may require additional coding, such as pain or impaction.
