Vibratory urticaria

This code describes a rare form of physical urticaria characterized by the rapid development of transient, itchy wheals and angioedema upon exposure to vibratory stimuli. Symptoms typically appear within minutes of vibration and resolve within an hour. It is a mast cell-mediated disorder.

Assign this code when documentation clearly indicates a diagnosis of vibratory urticaria, often triggered by activities such as using vibrating tools, riding in vehicles, or even vigorous toweling. Supporting documentation should include a history of symptoms triggered by vibration and, ideally, results of a vibratory challenge test.

• Ensure documentation specifies "vibratory" urticaria to differentiate from other physical urticarias.
• Do not confuse with other forms of chronic inducible urticaria (e.g., cold urticaria, pressure urticaria) unless vibratory stimulus is explicitly identified as the trigger.
• Consider co-reporting with codes for associated symptoms like pruritus (L29.x) if separately documented and treated.
