Supporting documentation includes imaging reports (ultrasound, CT, MRI) confirming the abnormal renal location.

• Differentiate from nephroptosis (M96.840), which is a prolapsed or "floating" kidney, not a congenital misplacement.
• Do not use for acquired kidney displacement due to tumor or injury; those conditions would be coded separately.
• If the ectopic kidney is associated with other congenital anomalies, ensure all relevant codes are reported.
