Congenital coxa valga

This code describes a congenital deformity of the hip joint where the angle between the head/neck of the femur and the femoral shaft is abnormally increased, exceeding the normal range (typically >135 degrees). This results in a more vertical alignment of the femoral neck.

Assign this code when documentation explicitly states a diagnosis of congenital coxa valga. This condition is often identified during pediatric orthopedic evaluations for gait abnormalities, hip pain, or developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) screening. Imaging studies such as X-rays confirming the increased femoral neck-shaft angle support its use.

• Differentiate from acquired coxa valga, which would be coded differently.
• Do not confuse with coxa vara (Q65.82), where the angle is decreased.
