This code is appropriate when documentation indicates urinary leakage resulting from a patient's inability to ambulate to the restroom, unfasten clothing, or recognize the need to void due to conditions like severe arthritis, dementia, or neurological deficits. Supporting documentation should clearly differentiate this from urge or stress incontinence.

• Do not code this with N39.3-N39.4- (stress or other specified urinary incontinence) or R32 (urinary incontinence NOS).
• Ensure the medical record explicitly states the incontinence is due to functional limitations, not bladder dysfunction.
• Code any underlying physical or cognitive conditions contributing to the functional impairment (e.g., G30.9 for Alzheimer's, M19.90 for osteoarthritis).
