Assign this code when documentation explicitly states "somnolence" as a presenting symptom or diagnosis, without further specification of an underlying cause or when the cause is unknown. It is appropriate for patients exhibiting excessive daytime sleepiness or prolonged periods of sleepiness that are not attributed to a specific sleep disorder or other medical condition.
