This typically manifests as a lack of awareness of one side of the body or environment, often following a stroke or other neurological injury.

This code is appropriate when documentation clearly indicates a patient exhibits symptoms of neurologic neglect, such as ignoring one side of their visual field, failing to dress one side of their body, or neglecting objects on one side. It is often seen in patients with right-sided brain lesions affecting the parietal lobe, resulting in left-sided neglect.

• Ensure documentation specifies "neglect" rather than just a visual field cut or motor weakness.
• Do not code this with visuospatial deficit (R41.842) as per the Excludes1 note.
• Consider sequencing this code after the underlying neurological condition (e.g., stroke) if applicable.
