These sequelae can manifest as chronic respiratory issues, tracheal damage, or other persistent health problems directly attributable to the original aspiration event.

Use this code when documenting a patient's current condition that is a direct consequence of a previously resolved tracheal foreign body aspiration (excluding food) that led to asphyxiation. This is appropriate for follow-up visits or hospitalizations addressing these chronic complications, not the acute event itself.

• Always assign this code with an additional code(s) specifying the nature of the sequela (e.g., chronic bronchitis, tracheal stenosis).
• Ensure documentation clearly links the current condition to the past foreign body aspiration and asphyxiation.
• Do not use for acute foreign body aspiration; that would require a code from the T17.4- series without the "S" seventh character.
