Apply this code when a patient presents with a documented illness or injury that the provider explicitly links to vaping. This is appropriate for conditions such as E-cigarette or Vaping Product Use-Associated Lung Injury (EVALI), acute respiratory distress syndrome secondary to vaping, or other organ damage where vaping is the established etiology.

• Always ensure the medical record clearly documents the causal link between vaping and the patient's condition.
• Code this as a primary diagnosis when the vaping-related disorder is the reason for the encounter, or as a secondary diagnosis when it complicates another condition.
• Do not use this code for general tobacco use disorder or nicotine dependence unless the specific disorder is directly caused by vaping.
