Vulval varices

This code represents the presence of abnormally dilated, tortuous veins located in the vulvar region. These varicosities can occur due to increased venous pressure, often associated with pregnancy or pelvic congestion. Patients may experience discomfort, itching, or a feeling of heaviness.

Use this code when documentation clearly indicates the diagnosis of vulval varices. This condition is frequently observed during pregnancy but can also occur independently. Supporting documentation should include physician notes describing the presence and location of these varicosities.

• Do not confuse with varicose veins of the lower extremities (454.xx) or pelvic varices (456.8).
• If occurring during pregnancy, an additional code from the V22.x series (normal pregnancy) or 671.0x (varicose veins of lower extremity in pregnancy) may be necessary, depending on the specific clinical context.
• Ensure the documentation specifies "vulval" to differentiate from other venous varicosities.
