This code identifies an outpouching or sac-like protrusion from the wall of the stomach. These diverticula are typically asymptomatic but can occasionally lead to complications such as bleeding, inflammation, or obstruction. They are often discovered incidentally during imaging studies or endoscopy.

Assign this code when documentation clearly indicates the presence of a gastric diverticulum. This includes both congenital and acquired forms, regardless of whether they are causing symptoms. Supporting documentation would include endoscopy reports, barium swallow studies, CT scans, or surgical pathology reports confirming the diagnosis.

• Do not use this code for diverticula in other parts of the digestive tract (e.g., esophageal or duodenal diverticula).
• If the gastric diverticulum is complicated by bleeding, inflammation, or perforation, assign an additional code for the complication.
• Ensure the documentation specifies "gastric" to differentiate from diverticulosis/diverticulitis of the intestine.
