Apply this code when documentation specifies an injury to any part of the visual pathway beyond the optic nerve head, but before the visual cortex. This is appropriate for conditions like traumatic optic chiasm lesions, optic tract contusions, or damage to the optic radiations due to head trauma or other external forces.

• Differentiate from optic nerve injuries (377.x) which are proximal to the optic pathways.
• Always code the underlying cause of the injury (e.g., fracture, concussion) first.
