Supporting documentation should clearly describe the tic symptoms and rule out other specific tic disorders.

• Do not use this code if the patient meets criteria for Tourette's disorder (F95.2), persistent (chronic) motor or vocal tic disorder (F95.1), or provisional tic disorder (F95.0).
• Always review the full diagnostic criteria for other tic disorders to ensure this "other" category is appropriate.
• Consider sequencing if the tic disorder is secondary to another underlying medical condition; code the primary condition first if it is the focus of the encounter.
